Legend has it that the song of a forest bird, the yellowhammer, heard in Vienna’s Prater park inspired Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony. His student, pianist Carl Czerny, and the Bremen conductor W. K. Müller noted the rhythmic resemblance between the bird’s call and the famous motif.
